Hello, my name is George Perez. I am a junior out of Dwight-Englewood High School in New Jersey. I am a primary outfielder, and I can be versatile and move around any of the three positions in the outfield. As I prepare for this upcoming season with Dwight-Englewood and US Elite 2022 team Ward, I am set to play the season both as an outfielder and pitcher. As a pitcher, I throw a four-seam fastball, slider, changeup, and curveball. One thing that makes me a versatile player on the mound is that I am able to use my four-seam fastball as a two-seam and give it some movement. In my freshman year of high school, I pitched for the JV baseball team, while getting outfield reps with the varsity team. Last season, as you know, the season was cancelled due to COVID-19. However, the state organized “Last Dance” tournament came to fruition to allow the seniors one last opportunity to play. In that tournament, I made a few highlighted plays on defense and hit the ball well from the plate.
My GPA is currently standing at an unweighted 3.52. Throughout each year in high school I have taken a variety of honors level classes as well as taking my first AP class this year. I have taken honors level math, spanish, and history classes. This year as a junior I am taking AP Spanish Language. Growing up, my parents taught me that the term student-athlete starts with “student” because of the work that needs to be done in the classroom before anything can get done on the field. I am proud to have received honor roll 3x in my high school career and I hope to continue that trend. The classes that I have taken at the Honors and AP level have been insightful and have been thoroughly enjoyable.
